Says it has candidates in all 28 states holding governorship elections
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has rejected reports that it lacks governorship candidates in 12 states ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing the claims as false propaganda designed to undermine the party’s growing national profile.
The party, in a statement issued on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, Esq., said it had duly nominated governorship candidates in all 28 states where elections would be held in 2027.
The NDC said the reports were not only inaccurate but also capable of misleading the electorate about its readiness for the forthcoming elections.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the NDC has duly nominated and has governorship candidates in all the 28 states where governorship elections will take place in 2027,” the party declared.
The party also rejected any suggestion that it was a regional political organisation, insisting that it had established structures, candidates and supporters across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
To buttress its position, the NDC released the names of its governorship candidates in the 12 states allegedly identified in the reports:
- Zamfara State: Senator Kabiru Marafa
- Borno State: Rtd. Rear Admiral Ibrahim Sanusi Kasim
- Cross River State: Hon. John Odey
- Akwa Ibom State: Babanta Michael Okon
- Ebonyi State: Nwofe Boniface
- Plateau State: Yakubu Solomon Ndam
- Katsina State: Ilu-Barde Aliyu
- Kebbi State: Alhaji Umar Usman Besse
- Yobe State: Jonga Yahaya Gabakau
- Jigawa State: Dutse Aminu Sani
- Taraba State: Prof. Yahaya Mohammed Sani
- Niger State: Abdu Sidi Bomi
The party called on media organisations, journalists, bloggers and other content creators to exercise greater diligence in reporting political developments, urging them to verify information and scrutinise their sources before publication.
“Journalism thrives on truth, not rumours. Peddling unverified propaganda only erodes public trust in the media and in our democracy,” the statement said.
The NDC said it remained committed to issue-based politics and would not be distracted by what it described as sponsored falsehoods.
The party further positioned itself as an alternative to the established political order, saying Nigerians were “tired of the old order” and “recycled failures.”
It pledged that its 2027 campaign would focus on security, job creation, accountability and national development.
“With credible candidates, a clear manifesto, and a commitment to security, jobs, and accountability, we are ready to rescue and rebuild this nation in 2027,” the party said.
The NDC urged Nigerians to join its political movement, declaring that its “rescue mission” had begun.
