Former GMD, Odua Investments, Sir Remi Omotosho dies at 75

Former Group Managing Director of Odua Investments Ltd, Sir Remi Omotosho is dead. He was 75 years old.

He was reported to have been ill for about two weeks before he gave up the ghost in a Lagos hospital on Friday morning.

Sir Omotosho was a seasoned administrator and industry leader in Nigeria’s financial sector. He is currently the Chairman of the Board of Standard Chartered Bank of Nigeria and DN Meyer Paints.

He also served as Director General/Chief Executive Officer of Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Sir Omotoso has held various notable appointments with different companies in Nigeria, including Lever Brothers Nigeria Plc (now Unilever Plc), and Juli Plc.

Sir. Omotosho holds degrees in advanced management from Duke University, USA and the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.

Sir Omotosho had his elementary education in his home town, Oke-Aiyedun Ekiti, in the present Ekiti State.

He later attended Methodist Teacher Training College, Grade Three, at Ifaki-Ekiti. He then proceeded to University  of Ibadan, where he studied Geography.

Sir Omotosho was recruited into Lever Brothers Nigeria Ltd. on July 1, 1971. It did not take long for him to establish myself as a worthy asset in the company.

It did not take long for me to establish himself as a worthy asset in the company. He was exposed to various cultures and disciplines. He went in as a commercial trainee; rose to the top of that line within 12 or 13 years.

He therafter joined the board as a Personnel Director after some trainings abroad.

He was at a time a Lay President of the Methodist Church of Nigeria.

Sir Omotosho was very passionate about Yoruba land, particularly Ekiti, his state of Origin. He served the state in various capacities before his demise on Friday morning.
