The immediate past governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi is dead. He died at exactly 3.45pm Thursday afternoon at the First Cardiology Hospital, Ikoyi, Lagos. He was 70 years old.

Credible sources, including two persons who served as commissioners under him confirmed his death. He is expected to be buried tomorrow morning in his Ibadan, Oyo State home according to Islamic rites. One of the sources also told Gavel International that the family has already announced his passage.

Ajimobi has been in coma and on life support for some days after a surgery. He was even rumoured to have died some days ago.

A credible source said Ajimobi, who was being treated for COVID-19 complications has been totally unconscious since last Thursday after his organs totally collapsed.

“His organs collapsed about a week ago. It is just that the family didn’t want to unplug the life support. May his soul rest in peace,” he said.

The former governor was rumoured to be dead last week but his aides and family members denounced the report asking Nigerians to rather pray for his recovery
