Tragedy struck during the weekend at Alakuko area of Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway as a hit and run commercial bus passing through one way ran down an 18 year old girl, Hannah Lawal.
Hannah was on her way to the shop where she works as a domestic gas refill attendant when the accident happened.
Due to the bad state of the expressway, commercial buses coming from Sango-Ota usually pass through the one way from Amjey U-turn through Oniyaomebi/Shofela streets, then turn to Yusuf junction. As Hannah was about to cross, she didn’t notice an LT VW bus that was coming from one way side of the road with full speed. The bus hit Hannah to the ground and continued moving. Despite calls of the passengers to the driver to stop and take the girl to the hospital, he refused to wait.
Luck however ran out for the driver as his bus was found at Shofela close, Mosalasi bus stop. As he got to Oniyaomebi from Abukon bus stop, instead of taking the right to get to Yusuf road, he went left where Shofela is closed. The driver jumped over the wall and left the bus with registration number KRD255XT.
The case was quickly reported at the Alakuko Police Station and Mr Patrick Otobo, the Divisional Crime Officer told Gavel International that the LT VW KRD255XT is under his care at time of this report.
Meanwhile Hannah is presently at Holy field Hospital where she was in coma at the time of filing this report. Her mother, Mrs Lawal said she thank God for the arrest of the bus. “If the driver had escaped, who will pay the bills? As am here in this hospital, I have no dime at all with me, The Dr said we should deposit N30,000 naira and see me now! No money!”
The mother burst into tears as she called for assistance from the police boss not let her daughter die without treatment. At the time of this report, the driver’s location remains unknown.
