A former commissioner in Lagos State and renowned Islamic cleric, Dr Abdulhakeem Mobolaji Abdullateef over the weekend signified his intention to run for the office of the governor of Lagos State in 2023.
Dr Abdullateef made this known on social media through his Facebook page on Sunday, September 20, 2020. Earlier in the day, he asked on his page: “Will you support my vision on IYEPE 2023 as Lagos governor? The post received over 3000 comments, and 263 shares. At 11.00 pm, he wrote again: “Final answer= we fit do am…IYEPE 2023…Our Lord is sufficient for us! We promise to be different!”. Twenty four hour later, the post is still standing on his Facebook page with over 4000 likes, 1300 comments, and 345 shares.
A selfless, focused and hardworking personality, Dr Abdulhalkeem Mobolaji Abdullateef, is unique in many perspectives. His mien belies his amazing strides in life and this is obviously evident in his gait that is copiously devoid of any form of arrogance, despite the exalted public offices he has been opportune to occupy in the Centre of Excellence.
His simplicity is simply astonishing and despite being born into the Awori family of Ejibo, Dr Abdulhakeem Abdullateef, remains strongly committed to the emancipation of the downtrodden in the society
The story of his triumph in life, represents the victory of will power, hard work over life’s numerous hazards. Islamic Cleric, administrator, scholar, lawyer, politician and educationist, Dr Abdulhakeem Abdullateef was born on the 21st August 1967 to the royal Awori family of Ejigbo, in Oshodi-Isolo Council Area of Lagos State.
He was educated at the University of Lagos where he bagged a Bachelor of Law (LL. B) degree, as well as a Masters of Law (LL. M) degree in 2002. The versatility in him, saw him earning a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) degree in 2012 at the Lagos State University, (LASU). The icing on his academic career was in 2015, when he was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy in Law at the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies.
A grassroots politician without borders, between 2003 and 2007, Dr Abdulhakeem Abdullateef, was elected as an honourable member of Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Oshodi-Isolo constituency. This was a platform that further availed him the opportunity to improve on the wellbeing of the downtrodden which has always been a major preoccupation in public service.
His compassionate disposition towards the plight of the poor led to his sponsorship of numerous bills aimed at addressing the dilemma of the oppressed in the society. He served at different times as Chairman, House Committees on Judiciary, Education, Local Government Administration, Human Rights and Public Petitions.
In 2007, he was appointed Special Adviser to former Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola on Political and Legislative Powers, a position he held till 2011. In that capacity, he served as the bridge between the executive and the legislative arms, in order to ensure harmonious relationship between the two arms of government for the betterment of citizenry.
