Former Ghanaian President, Jerry Rawlings is dead

Former Ghanaian President Flt Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings is dead. He died today at the Korlebu Teaching Hospital, Accra on Thursday morning. He was 73 years old.

Speaking with Hon Jibril Maestro an executive member of National Democratic Congress and Media Secretary to the party in a phone chat from Accra confirmed the the death of the foremost Africa leader. He said Rawlings died today 11th of November 2020 9am.

Hon Maestro however denied insinuations that Rawlings died of COVID-19 complications. “His death has nothing to do with the covid19 at all”, he said.

A phone call to his wife, Nana Kunadu was not successful as her phone was switched off. Gavel International Correspondent, Ibrahim Ikowe remarked that “her number was not going for first time since I knew her”.

Rawlings was a former Ghanaian military leader and subsequent politician who ruled the country from 1981 to 2001 and also for a brief period in 1979. He led a military junta until 1992, and then served two terms as the democratically elected President of Ghana.
