Police arrest 19 at Alakuko as normalcy returns

Lagos Police Command on Monday arrested 19 suspects in connection with the lawlessness in Dalemo, Alakuko and Kola.

Recovered from the suspects were machetes, hand saw, axe and bikes. They are to be transferred to SCID, Panti.

Meanwhile, normalcy has returned to the areas while police are on convoy patrol of the affected communities.

Alakuko, a suburb along Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway was thrown into confusion last weekend as two cult groups attack themselves, throwing the whole community into distress and destroying properties worth millions of naira.

The clashes allegedly started on Friday evening and has continued unabated till Sunday afternoon, when the whole streets in the area were deserted and residents locked their gates.

A resident of the area, Iyke Omaka said “Since Friday night till Saturday night has been a hell within Alakuko in Alagbado area of Lagos state. Cultists vs cultists, so many properties worth millions has been destroyed not to talk about lives that has been lost. To my greatest surprise that fight started at the back of a police division (Alakuko Police Division). They could not do any thing rather the police ran into their station and lock the gate.

Another resident, Adebayo Shakur Adeshina, recounting his ordeal said he had to trek to Ajegunle from Alakuko yesterday(Saturday) night. “Most people parked their vehicles on the express, there is police station at Alakuko doing nothing. People are saying one notorious criminal called ‘confidence’  and his boys are causing it”

A lady, Bunmi Oguntade, a worshipper at the Genesis Celestial Church of Christ at Alakuko narrated to Gavel International how God saved her on Sunday afternoon after service. “The church had to close the gate and warned worshippers to stay indoors. She said the situation was particularly worse at Dalemo area where the hoodlums attacked every passer bye and also destroyed shops up till Alakuko bus stop.
