Ikeja, September 24, 2024 (TheGavel) – A 33-year-old man, Lukman Anifowose, has been remanded in a correctional facility by an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl.
Anifowose, a resident of Anuoluwapo Street, Hostel bus stop, Ikotun area of Lagos, faces a single charge of defilement. The prosecution, led by Inspector John Iberedem, alleged that the defendant committed the offense sometime in August at Ikotun.
According to the prosecutor, Anifowose forcefully engaged in sexual intercourse with the minor without her consent. This act is considered a serious violation of the law and carries severe penalties.
The prosecutor cited Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015, which stipulates life imprisonment for individuals found guilty of such a crime.
Chief Magistrate Mrs. E. Kubeinje, after hearing the prosecution’s case, declined to take the defendant’s plea due to the severity of the charge. She subsequently ordered Anifowose’s remand in a correctional center pending the issuance of legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The case has been adjourned until October 15th to allow for further legal proceedings and the gathering of additional evidence. (NAN)
