Lagos, Oct. 15, 2024 (TheGavel) – Paul David, a 50-year-old man, faced charges in an Ojo Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday for allegedly defrauding a woman out of N407,000 under the pretense of securing a rental apartment. The defendant was arraigned before Magistrate L.K.J. Layeni on three counts: conspiracy, obtaining by false pretenses, and stealing.
During the court proceedings, David pleaded not guilty to all charges brought against him. Prosecutor ASP Simon Uche detailed the allegations, stating that the offenses occurred in September when David, alongside accomplices who remain at large, allegedly conspired to defraud Victoria Samuel by promising to find her an apartment. Uche asserted that David unlawfully acquired the funds, which is a violation of Sections 287, 316, and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Following the arraignment, Magistrate Layeni granted bail to the defendant set at N200,000, requiring him to present two sureties in a similar sum. The case has been adjourned until November 18 for further mention.(NAN)
