Suspected Kidnapper Neutralized, Victim Rescued in Edo State

Benin, September 17, 2024(TheGavel) – In a swift operation, operatives of the Edo State Police Command have neutralized a suspected kidnapper and rescued his victim in the Egor area of the state. The incident unfolded when the suspect, armed with a gun, ambushed the victim, Iyobo Ighodaro, who was driving a silver-colored Mercedes Benz C350 car.

The victim’s family immediately reported the kidnapping to the Ugbowo Police Station on September 15th. Acting on the information, the Divisional Police Officer, CSP John Emmanuel, mobilized a surveillance team to track down the suspects.

Through diligent investigation, the team located the suspects’ hideout in Egor, where they were negotiating for ransom using the victim’s phone. As the police approached, a gunfight ensued, resulting in the fatal shooting of one of the suspects. The identity of the deceased suspect remains unknown.

The second suspect is believed to have escaped the scene with gunshot injuries.

In the operation, the operatives recovered the victim’s vehicle, a cut-to-size gun, a live cartridge, a cutlass, and three phones. The victim was rescued unharmed, received medical attention, and was reunited with his loved ones. The body of the deceased suspect was deposited at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).

The Commissioner of Police in Edo State, Nemi Iwo, commended the DPO and his operatives for their swift response and successful operation. He emphasized the police command’s commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of citizens. The commissioner also issued a stern warning to criminal elements in the state, stating that their days of impunity were numbered.

This incident highlights the ongoing efforts of the Edo State Police Command to address the issue of kidnapping in the region. The neutralization of the suspected kidnapper and the rescue of the victim demonstrate the police force’s dedication to protecting the lives and property of citizens.(NAN)
