Abuja, Sept. 23, 2024 (TheGavel) — The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a stern warning to comedians and skit makers regarding the unauthorized use of its uniforms and operational gear in their productions.
In a statement posted on its X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, the anti-graft agency emphasized that any unauthorized use of its uniforms would result in severe sanctions.
The EFCC noted that an old video titled “EFCC and Army Wahala” has resurfaced on social media, portraying the agency in a negative light. “This, once again, compels the EFCC to reiterate its warning to skit makers and other social workers to desist from using the operational accoutrements of the commission illegally and irresponsibly,” the statement read.
The commission criticized the video, describing it as a “caricature of the operational etiquette of the EFCC.” It further stated, “The shameful characterization of supposed operatives of the commission unleashing terror on ‘suspects’ is not only embarrassing but indicative of a deliberate attempt to cast shadows on the image of the EFCC.”
The EFCC reiterated that its operatives are not bullies but are trained as modern law enforcement officers, exhibiting decency, civility, and respect for all members of the public, including those suspected of economic and financial crimes.
“Skit makers are warned again to desist from unauthorized use of the accoutrements of the commission,” the EFCC concluded. (NAN)
