The 40-year-old previously served as CAF’s Director of Competitions, where he gained extensive experience in the administration and organisation of major continental football tournaments, including the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the CAF Champions League.
His elevation places him at the centre of CAF’s administrative operations, with responsibility for overseeing the organisation’s day-to-day affairs, handling legal matters and ensuring the implementation of decisions taken by the Executive Committee.
Adamu brings considerable experience in sports management and governance to the position. He holds a FIFA Master’s degree in the Management, Law and Humanities of Sport.
His involvement in football administration dates back to the early 2010s, when he established the now-defunct Copa Lagos beach football tournament.
His appointment marks a significant milestone for Nigeria, with Adamu becoming the first Nigerian to serve as CAF general secretary in the organisation’s nearly seven-decade history.
