The Plateau State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Davou Dachung, over the alleged murder of his wife, Jessica Davou, in Jos South Local Government Area of the state.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Alfred Alabo, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, saying the incident was reported at the Kaduna Vom Divisional Police Headquarters on 20 October 2026.

According to Alabo, the suspect allegedly shot his wife in the left side of her chest with a locally fabricated firearm at their residence in Haita Fwil Village, Vwang, Kogot, Jos South, on 18 October at about 9.00 am.

He said the report prompted the Commissioner of Police, CP Ayodeji Faniyan, to direct the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area to mobilise officers to the scene.

The suspect was subsequently arrested, while the victim was rushed to a hospital for medical attention but was later confirmed dead.

Alabo added that further interrogation and a search of the suspect’s residence led detectives to recover three locally fabricated firearms and five cartridges.

The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

The police spokesperson said the suspect would be charged in court after the investigation had been concluded.

The Commissioner of Police reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that anyone found culpable of violent crimes is brought to justice in accordance with the law.

The Command also urged residents to report suspicious activities and emergencies to the nearest police station or through its control room emergency lines: 07059473022 and 08038907662.
