AU Special Envoy, Africa Vaccines Aquisition Task Team AVATT, Zimbabwean , London based billionaire, Strive Masiyiwa , has cried foul on the EU, on discriminating entry into European Countries of Africans who have been vaccinated with COVAX AstraZeneca Vaccines or Chinese Sino Pharm Vaccines, saying it has now divided the world in the midst of 3rd Wave in Africa
The COVAX AstraZeneca Vaccines, currently ongoing in African Countries, is UN backed Vaccine exercise, funded by global partners, including the EU.
It is ridiculous, according to AU AVAAT Envoy, for the same EU to now impose travel restrictions on Africans vaccinated with this vaccine to enter Europe , when they provided funds toward the COVAX facilities
More so, AstraZeneca is a British- Swedish manufacturer , only that the COVAX AstraZeneca Vaccines were manufactured in India, under patent from the parent body in Europe.
This is worsened in a situation where Africa is yet to receive a single dose from any European country, even the 1 billion doses pledged from the recently concluded G7 summit in England is yet to be received, he cried out.
Africa has a population of 1.3 billion, only 1% has been vaccinated so far, amid ongoing 3rd Wave, widely seen as dangerous , aggressive and contagious. In June alone, the current Delta Variant has spiked up death rates in Africa by 23%, with current health facilities in deplorable conditions.
