A former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and Life Bencher, Mr Augustine Oyarekhua Alegeh turned 60 years old on Saturday, August 10, 2024. It was a gathering of the creme de la creme of the lawyers community and the social circles.
Alegeh hails from Ikabigbo, Etsako West Local Government Area, Edo State. He was born on 10th August, 1964 to the family of Late DCP & Mrs. Matthew Alegeh (Rtd.) in Warri, Delta State.
He attended St. George’s Primary School, Falomo, Lagos State for his Primary Education. He commenced his secondary education at St. Paul’s Seminary, Benin-City, Edo State and was later transferred to Edo College, Benin-City where he obtained his West African School Certificate (‘O’ levels) in 1980. He further proceeded to Federal Government College, Warri in January, 1981 for his ‘A’ levels.
He obtained his Law degree from the prestigious University of Benin in 1985 and was subsequently called to the Nigerian Bar on 16th October, 1986. At the Bar Qualifying Examinations of 1986, Mr. Augustine O. Alegeh won the Bola Ajibola Prize for Civil Procedure.
He has been in active legal practice for a period exceeding 37 years and is the Founding Partner of A.O Alegeh & Co. [Legal Practitioners & Notaries] with offices in Benin, Lagos and Abuja.
He was appointed a Notary Public by the Chief Justice of Nigeria in 1991 and was subsequently elevated to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria by the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee of the Body of Benchers in 2007.
He is an alumnus of Keble College, Oxford University, United Kingdom and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Arbitrators, United Kingdom.
He is a Past President and Trustee of the Nigerian Bar Association, Former Member of the National Judicial Council, Life Bencher and also an active member of The International Bar Association.
He is also a recipient of the National Honour of the Commander of the Order of the Niger [CON] and the Rivers State Honour of Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State.
Alegeh is happily married with Children.
