Angry okada rider stabs policeman to death in Lagos

A commercial motorcyclist, Aliu Sanusi, has reportedly stabbed a policeman, Wasiu Abogunloko to death for seizing his motorcycle.

The incident happened at Megida bus stop in the Ayobo area of Lagos.

Reports say the Sanusi also stabbed a teenager, who was among people who tried to apprehend him after he killed the policemen around 11 pm.

The 30-year-old was however apprehended and handed over to the police in the area. He was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba for investigation.

Sanusi was arraigned before an Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court for murder.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Oladele Adebayo, had told the court that the defendant had committed the offence on 3rd January 2022.

He told the court that the defendant had stabbed Abogunloko with scissors, which led to his death and had also stabbed a teenager, who is receiving treatment.

“The defendant’s bike was seized by the deceased officer and in anger, Aliu brought out scissors, which he used to stab him to death.

“While escaping, some people, who witnessed the scene, tried to grab him amongst who was the teenager, who also got stabbed by Aliu in his bid to escape,” he said.

The offences according to Adebayo contravened Sections 173 and 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The case was adjourned until 15th March 2022, for legal advice.

The defendant was arraigned on a two-count charge of murder and bodily assault and his plea was not taken before the court.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. F.M. Kayode, ordered the remand of the defendant at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre pending receipt of legal advice from the office of the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
