APGA Chairmanship Aspirants Call for New Primaries in Onitsha South

Onitsha (Anambra), Aug. 29, 2024 (The Gavel) – Several aspirants for the chairmanship position of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Onitsha South Local Government Area of Anambra have urged Governor Charles Soludo to organize new primaries for the area.

During a meeting held on Thursday in Onitsha, the three aspirants—Mr. Chukwuma Akajiobi, Mr. Onyebuchi Obi, and Mr. Promise Egbeji—expressed their concerns about the selection process.

The aspirants alleged that the incumbent Transition Chairman, Mr. Emeka Orji, was imposed as the APGA chairmanship candidate for the upcoming September 28 local government elections, rather than being elected through a legitimate primary.

In his address, Akajiobi called on Governor Soludo to disregard the results of the purported primaries that declared Orji as the winner. He claimed that no genuine primary was conducted, labeling the process as an imposition.

“Our governor is a product of democratic values. We urge him to ensure that proper primaries are held in Onitsha South Local Government before the council elections,” Akajiobi stated. He also praised Soludo for his efforts in advancing democracy through strategic infrastructure development in Onitsha South.

Fellow aspirant Obi echoed similar concerns, urging stakeholders to remain committed to democratic principles. He criticized Orji’s nomination, describing it as undemocratic.

Egbeji, another chairmanship hopeful, highlighted his community involvement through his foundation. He emphasized that his candidacy aims to support the Anambra government by bringing the “Solution Government” message to the grassroots.
