Kano, September 17, 2024(TheGavel) – A 32-year-old businessman, Bashir Tijjani, has been arraigned before a Kano Sharia Court on charges of criminal breach of trust, cheating, and mischief. Tijjani, a resident of Kurna Quarters, Fagge Local Government Area, Kano State, pleaded guilty to the charges.

The prosecution, led by Inspector Abdullahi Wada, informed the court that the complainant, Rufai Zakari, reported the matter to the Fagge Police Station on September 10th. Zakari had entrusted Tijjani with 10 bags of onions valued at N600,000 to sell and return the proceeds.

However, Tijjani allegedly sold the onions and misappropriated the funds for personal use. Despite repeated attempts by Zakari to recover the money, Tijjani could not provide a satisfactory explanation. He claimed to have sold only three of the ten bags of onions.

The prosecutor argued that the defendant’s actions violated Sections 202 and 206 of the Penal Code. The judge, Malam Umar Lawal-Abubakar, admitted Tijjani to bail in the sum of N50,000 with one reliable surety who must be a blood relation. The case has been adjourned until September 30th for summary trial.
