Calabar, Nigeria – (TheGavel) – Residents of Calabar have expressed concern over the scarcity and high cost of petrol, describing the situation as “highly worrisome.” Despite being sold at exorbitant prices of between N880 and N950 per liter, the product remains scarce, leading to long queues at fueling stations.
Motorists have resorted to arriving at fueling stations as early as 3:00 a.m. to secure a spot in the queue, only to be left disappointed when sales are delayed or canceled. The situation has caused frustration among residents, who are struggling to access the essential commodity.
“I arrived at the NNPC station at 3:00 a.m., but they haven’t started selling yet,” said Mr. Johnson Effiong, a motorist. “It’s frustrating because we saw petrol being discharged yesterday, but it’s not being sold to customers.”
Another motorist, Daniel Uwem, expressed concerns about the difficulty in accessing petrol despite the high prices. “We don’t know what to complain about anymore. The price is high, and it’s hard to find stations that are open and selling freely.”
Mr. Matthew Archibong, a mini bus driver, spent several hours at a fueling station only to be told that petrol would not be sold. “I left that place and came to queue up at the NNPC fuel station, but it’s sad to see that they’re not selling either.”
The situation has left residents stranded, with many struggling to access petrol for their daily needs.(NAN)
