(TheGavel) — An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan has remanded 35-year-old Olayinka Akinware and 29-year-old Tunji Adesina for allegedly unleashing four dogs to obstruct police officers attempting to arrest a suspect.
Magistrate Mr. M. Mudashiru, citing jurisdictional constraints, did not take the suspects’ pleas and ordered their remand at the Abolongo Correctional Facility in Oyo. He indicated that the remand would remain in effect pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP). The case has been adjourned until December 18 for mention.
Prosecution Counsel Insp. Femi Oluwadare informed the court that the suspects face charges of conspiracy and obstruction of justice. He stated that they allegedly conspired to prevent the arrest of a suspect living in their residence.
On September 12, at approximately 8:30 a.m., the suspects reportedly assaulted Deputy Superintendent Festus Fagbohun, ASP Ojo Tolulope, Insp. Sariki Mohammed, and Cpl. Tosin Olubode with bamboo branches. “Akinware and Adesina unleashed their Pitbull, Rottweiler, and two Eskimo dogs on the police in an effort to thwart the lawful arrest of Korede Adeoye while they were performing their duties,” Oluwadare explained.
The incident took place at No. 15, Oluwo area, Ibadan, and is said to violate Sections 332 and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000. Section 332 prescribes life imprisonment for those found guilty of the offense. (NAN)
