Ado-Ekiti, October 2, 2024(TheGavel)– An Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of a 42-year-old man, Christopher Israel, in the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre over allegations of raping his 22-year-old daughter. The police have charged Israel with rape and assault.
Presiding over the case, Magistrate Olubunmi Bamidele stated that Israel’s plea could not be taken due to the court’s lack of jurisdiction in the matter. Consequently, she ordered that Israel be held in custody until the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) provides legal advice. The case was adjourned to November 6 for further mention.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Olubu Apata, informed the court that the alleged offence occurred on September 21 in Ado-Ekiti. Apata stated that Israel raped his daughter, who had visited him, and inflicted injuries on her during her struggle to resist the assault.
The prosecutor highlighted that the alleged offence violated Sections 265 and 256 of the Ekiti State Criminal Law of 2021 and urged the court to remand Israel pending the legal advice from the DPP’s office.
The case has drawn attention due to the gravity of the accusations, with the court expected to proceed based on the legal guidance from the DPP. (NAN)
