Court stops Ganduje from creating and appointing emirs for new emirates

Justice Nasiru Saminu of Ungongo Judicial Division gave the order sequel to a motion  ex-parte filed before him by Hon Rabiu Sule Gwarzo, seeking to restrain the governor from creating the new emirates and appointing emirs for them.

A Kano High Court on Friday restrained the Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje from giving effect to a new law passed by the State House of Assembly, creating four new emirates out of Kano.

Justice Nasiru Saminu of Ungongo Judicial Division gave the order sequel to a motion  ex-parte filed before him by Hon Rabiu Sule Gwarzo, seeking to restrain the governor from creating the new emirates and appointing emirs for them.

The interim order

Joined in the suit are the Speaker, Kano State House of Assembly,  Kano State House of Assembly, the Clerk, Kano State House of Assembly,  Governor of Kano State, Attorney General of Kano State, and the Government printer.

Interim order

The motion  was argued by Suraj Sa’eda SAN,  leading Aminu Sanni Gandaya, Ismail Abdulaziz, Sagir Suleiman Gezawa, and Oseni Sefullahi. They all appeared for the plaintiff.

Justice Saminu granted an interim injunction restraining the governor from giving staffs of office to the new emirs of Bichi emirate, Gaya emirate, Rano emirate,  and Karaye emirate. The judge fixed May 15,2019 for the hearing of the motion on notice.
