Delta Police Apprehend Five Kidnap Suspects, Recover Cash and Weapons

Warri, Nigeria(TheGavel) – The Delta State Police Command has successfully apprehended five suspected kidnappers in Ughelli South Local Government Area. The suspects were arrested on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at their hideout in Ewu town.

According to the police spokesman, SP Bright Edafe, the suspects were apprehended following a tip-off received by the crack squad attached to the Ughelli Area Command. During interrogation, the suspects admitted to their involvement in various armed robbery and kidnapping activities in Ughelli and surrounding areas.

One of the crimes they confessed to was the kidnapping of a 70-year-old woman on September 8, 2024. The suspects demanded and received a ransom of N7.9 million before releasing the elderly woman.

The police operation resulted in the recovery of several items linked to the suspects’ criminal activities. These items include a single-barrel gun, three locally made cut-to-size guns, N450,000 in cash, a Moniepoint Point of Sales (POS) machine, an OPAY POS machine, and wraps of suspected Cannabis sativa.
