Driver Faces Trial Over Alleged Theft of Onions Worth N780,000

Kaduna, Nigeria(TheGavel) – A 41-year-old driver, Moses Eromosele, appeared before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, to face charges of theft. Eromosele is accused of stealing six bags of onions valued at N780,000.

The prosecutor, Mr. Chidi Leo, informed the court that the alleged theft occurred on September 10 in Kaduna. The complainant, Haruna Usman, reported the incident to the Gabasawa Police Station, claiming that the onions were intended to be transported from Pambegua to Kawo Market.

Following the report, police officers from the Gabasawa Police Station apprehended Eromosele. The alleged theft is said to have violated Section 217 of the Kaduna State Penal Code of 2017.

During the court proceedings, Eromosele pleaded not guilty to the charges. Chief Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel granted the defendant bail in the amount of N200,000, requiring a surety to provide proof of three years of tax payment to the Kaduna State Government.
