DSS produces eight Igboho aides in court

The Department of State Services DSS Monday brought to court eight (8) out of the twelve aides allegedly arrested by the agency during a raid of Sunday Adeyemo, Aka Igboho’s house in Ibadan in July.

The Pro-Yoruba agitator’s residence this medium recalls was invaded penultimate month where two of his aides were allegedly killed.

The eight suspected associates were brought to the Federal High Court Abuja in company of the DSS operative in a white Toyota Corolla with plate number KWL 957 EW.

At the last sitting, the Defendants counsel Pelumi Olajengbesi had complained to the presiding Judge, Justice Obiora Egwuatu that he is being barred from accessing his clients.

Also, counsel to the DSS, David Awo, had told Justice Egwuatu that the suspects had not been brought to Court despite an order to do so because investigation are still ongoing.

The lawyer also told the Court that of the 13 arrested following the raid, only three of the names contained in the court order are in DSS custody.

But at the resumed hearing Monday, the applicants’ counsel brought a motion on notice seeking to be granted leave of court to amend all the court processes to reflect the correct names of the applicants in custody.

After listening to their submissions, In about 45 minutes proceeding, Justice Egwuatu ordered the applicants to amend charges and processes presently before the court.

Meanwhile, hearing on the matter has been adjourned till Wednesday 4th August for further hearing.

Although today’s matter was supposed to be arguments on bail application for the (12) of the alleged Yoruba secessionist leader Igboho’s aides, the Judge could not sit until about an hour after their arrival.

Meanwhile, there was a mild drama during their arrival as one of the cameramen got his camera seized by the overzealous security agents who faulted him for carrying out his duty.

After they have been ushered into the courtroom, the DSS operatives stopped some Journalists from carrying out their duties as they barricaded the Justice Egwuatu’s courtroom door claiming order from above.

Some other newsmen had gained entrance earlier.

One of the DSS operatives was quoted as reechoing; “We have been mandated to stood our grounds”

It took the intervention of the National Association of Judiciary Correspondents (NAJUC) executives before the seized camera was released.
