Ekiti people at the weekend rose with a clear voice to reject RUGA project of the Federal government. They also demanded that the state governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi should use the security votes he collects for the security of the people of the state.
Speaking under the auspices of Ekiti Parapo, the people after much deliberations in Lagos on Sunday directed the President, of Ekiti Parapo, Engr Dare Ojo and his executives to write a letter to Governor informing him of the decisions of Ekiti Parapo. Similar letters are also to be written to all the Obas in Ekiti.
Furthermore, the people mandated the Engr Ojo led executive to set up a seven man committee that should henceforth liase with relevant authorities, and groups over security issues of the state. The people said that kidnapping must stop henceforth in Ekiti.
Ekiti Parapo lamented the security situation of the state which has prevented several indigenes from going home for the fear of being kidnapped. Many speakers believe that some misguided Ekiti people have joined the kidnappers who killed and maim and also demand ransom from their victims.
The group therefore called on such misguided youths to desist form kidnapping henceforth or face grim consequences. They called on parents to warn their wards from participating in the crime.
Ekiti Parapo also identified unemployment as the root cause for the Ekiti youths that joined kidnappers. It therefore called on the government to create jobs for the teeming unemployed youths of the state. An idle hand is a devil’s workshop, the group reminded the governor.
Rather than the Federal government’s RUGA, the group urged the governor to set up livestock farms which could offer gainful employment to thousands of Ekiti youths.
Present at the meeting are Chief Jimoh Aliu, Sir Remi Omotosho, Chief Esan Ogunleye, Mr Dele Adesina SAN, Pastor (Mrs) Iyabo Obasa, and a host of others.
