FRSC Launches Aggressive Enforcement to Curb Accidents During Ember Months
Sango-Ota (Ogun), August 27, 2024 (TheGavel) — The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Command, has initiated a rigorous enforcement campaign targeting traffic rule violations to reduce road accidents during the ember months.
In a statement on Tuesday in Ota, the new Ogun FRSC Sector Commander, Mr. Fasakin Akinwumi, informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the FRSC Corps Commander, Shehu Mohammed, has instructed all sector commands to deploy personnel extensively for continuous 24-hour surveillance.
Akinwumi emphasized that the enforcement aims to address the reckless behaviors of motorists and minimize accidents, particularly during the last four months of the year—September, October, November, and December.
He highlighted that common causes of accidents in the state include speeding, reckless driving, wrongful overtaking, and tyre blowouts. The sector commander stressed the importance of enhanced special patrols to ensure safer roads throughout the ember months.
Akinwumi reassured that the ember months are not inherently hazardous but urged motorists to adopt safer driving practices. “We appeal to motorists to adhere to traffic rules and regulations to avoid preventable accidents,” he stated.
Additionally, the FRSC will conduct public awareness campaigns at motor parks, churches, and mosques to emphasize the importance of road safety.
Akinwumi also warned against the use of intoxicants that impair driving abilities, which can lead to accidents.
“Our goal is to educate and ensure safer driving practices to protect lives on our highways,” he added. (NAN)
