Jean – Claude Kassi Brou, the 69 year old Ivorian economist cum politician, President of ECOWAS and on Sunday appointed Governor of West Africa Central Bank, effective Monday 4 July 2022.
Brou is expected to continue in his present position as President of ECOWAS till 20, July, 2022.
Analysts believed that Brou was appointed West Africa Central Bank Governor for three key reasons.
Firstly, Brou has a rich resume. He has previously held sensitive ministerial positions in President Alhassan Quatara cabinet. The most sensitive was Industry and Mines.
Secondly, he holds a PhD in Monetary Economics and had previously worked at the same West African Bank between 2000 and 2003 at senior capacities.
Thirdly, he was the overwhelming choice to head the bank in view of the lingering ECO Currency issue and his outstanding knowledge on monetary economics.
