Lawyer to the family of the late Sylvester Omoroni, Mr Femi Falana SAN has petitioned the Nigerian Police to investigate the claims of social media personality, Kemi Olunloyo that the late Dowen College school boy was been ‘blended’ to join the cult when he met his untimely death.

Olunloyo’s story contradicts claims by the Oromonis that Sylvester as bullied by five senior students who wanted him to forcefully join their cult. She had in a recorded video circulated on social media claimed that her own investigations revealed that it was in course of joining the cult that he was beaten and given engine oil to drink.

Falana in a letter signed by a lawyer in chambers, Taiwo E. Olawanle and addressed to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department,

Lagos State Police Command,

Panti, Yaba, requested the police to investigate Olunloyo’s claim with a view to prosecuting her for making false allegations capable of diverting police investigations into the case.

The letter reads:

REQUEST FOR INVESTIGATION OF THE ALLEGATION MADE BY MS KEMI OLUNLOYO ON THE TRAGIC DEATH OF SYLVESTER OROMONI AT DOWEN COLLEGE, LEKKI, LAGOS

We remain Solicitors to the family of the late Sylvester Oromoni, a student of Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos State who recently died from the injuries sustained during a violent attack by some students.

Although the students and staff of the College suspected to have played a role in the brutal murder of Sylvester Oromini have made useful statements to the Police. One Ms Kemi Olunloyo has just introduced another twist to the incident. According to a false statement credited to her, Ms Olunloyo claimed that “Sylvester Oromoni wanted to join the cult, he agreed to be beaten and drank Engine oil as part of the initiation process.”

Ms Olunloyo recorded her false statement and has been circulating the same on social media in a wicked manner with the sole purpose of diverting attention from the ongoing investigation by the Police. Apart from attempting to destroy the name of Sylvester Oromoni, Ms Olunloyo has exacerbated the tragedy of his parents, family members and friends without any justification whatsoever.

Even though the reckless statement is a figment of the imagination of Ms Olunloyo, we are of the strong view that she ought to assist the Police in the ongoing investigation into the cause of the death of Sylvester Oromoni. We are therefore compelled to request the Police to investigate the allegation of false information being circulated by Ms Olunloyo on the gruesome circumstances surrounding the death of Sylvester Oromoni. If she cannot substantiate her reckless allegation, Ms Olunloyo ought to be charged with false information in the Magistrate Court in Lagos State.

While we hope that our request will be granted, please accept the warm regards of our principal, Mr. Femi Falana, SAN“.
