Farotimi brought to court in handcuffs, gets N50m bail

A Federal High Court in Ado-Ekiti on Monday granted activist and lawyer, Dele Farotimi bail in a criminal defamation case brought against him by Chief Afe Babalola SAN.

Farotimi was brought to court with handcuffs visibly in his hands, followed by a retinue of armed police men.

Justice Babs Olaniyi Kuewumi, the trial judge set the bail amount at N50 million, requiring a surety of the same value who must own landed property. He subsequently adjourned further proceedings till January 29, 2025.

On December 4, a magistrate court presided over by Mr Abayomi Adeosun remanded Farotimi in prison custody for charges of criminal defamation against Chief Babalola, and adjourned further proceedings till today.
