The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has closed an unregistered medical facility, Dada’s Clinic and Maternity Ltd, operating in Kapwa, Gaube Community in Kuje Area Council. The action was announced by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, in a statement issued on Monday.

The clinic, located along the main road leading to the community, was shut down on Sunday by the Private Health Establishments Registration and Monitoring Committee (PHERMC). The facility was found to be operating without registration and performing medical procedures in an unsuitable rented apartment under the guise of a medical outreach.

Sabiu, a health worker managing the clinic, was detained and handed over to the police for further investigation. The operation was led by the Director of the Medical and Diagnostics Department, following directives from the Mandate Secretary of the Health and Environment Secretariat, Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe.

Preliminary findings revealed that a community elder had died after undergoing a hernia operation at the clinic. Additionally, there were multiple reports of patients who barely survived procedures and required emergency medical care elsewhere.

The clinic was found to be in a dilapidated and unsanitary condition, lacking basic amenities such as windows, doors, a reception area, nursing station, bathroom, or toilet. The statement confirmed that at the time of the visit, there were three patients on admission, including an elderly patient on intravenous infusion, who were all stable, and referred to Kuje General Hospital for proper medical care before sealing off the facility.

Minister Nyesom Wike has expressed zero tolerance for illegal health facilities in the FCT and reiterated the commitment to ensuring safe and regulated healthcare services through proper accreditation. The Minister has directed that all unregistered health facilities be sealed to protect residents from unsafe medical practices.
