The Chief Judge (CJ) of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Justice John Terhemba Tsoho, has announced that the court’s 2026 annual vacation will commence on July 27 and end on September 11, 2026.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Director of Information of the Federal High Court, Dr. Catherine Oby Christopher.
According to the statement, the annual vacation was approved pursuant to Order 46, Rule 4(d) of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019.
Despite the vacation period, judicial activities will continue in designated divisions of the court to ensure that urgent matters receive prompt attention.
According to the statement, the Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt and Enugu judicial divisions will remain open as vacation courts throughout the period.
The court advised legal practitioners and members of the public to file and prosecute only urgent cases at the designated vacation courts nearest to them.
To facilitate the hearing of such matters, the Chief Judge designated eight judges to sit during the vacation period.
For the Abuja Division, Justices Joyce Abdulmalik and Obiora Egwuatu were appointed by the Chief Judge as vacation judges, while in Lagos, Justices Akintayo Aluko and Ogazi F. Nkemakonam will preside over urgent matters during the vacation.
The Port Harcourt Division will be manned by Justices P. M. Ayua and A. T. Mohammed, while Justices F. O. G. Ogunbanjo and M. T. Segun-Bello have been designated for the Enugu Division of the court to sit as vacation judges.
The statement noted that the arrangement is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted access to justice for litigants with pressing legal matters during the court’s annual recess.
Justice Tsoho also extended his goodwill to judges of the Federal High Court, wishing them a pleasant vacation in advance.
