Former NBA chief, Okey Wali regains freedom

The kidnapped former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr Okey Wali has regained his freedom. He was released in the evening May 1, 2023 after spending 14 days in the kidnappers den.

The news of his release was broken by the current president of the association, Mr Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau SAN, who also confirmed the release after speaking to Mr Wali. He was kidnapped on April 17, 2023 following a violent attack on his convoy along East-West Road in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

This not Wali’s first experience with kidnappers. He was kidnapped on October 11, 2014. He was released on October 24, having spent 13 days in the den of his kidnappers.

In a press statement he signed, Maikyau said: “To the glory of God Almighty, I am pleased to announce the release and return of Mr Okey Wali SAN return to his family. I personally spoke with him and he is in good spirits”.

The NBA president reiterated his call on the Federal government to live up to its constitutional responsibility of protecting the lives and properties of all Nigerians in all ramifications. “Every life is valuable and must be treated with honour and dignity”, he said.
