FRSC Urges Drivers to Shun Speeding, Wrongful Overtaking to Avoid Crashes

Imo FRSC boss promises greater awareness about safe traffic rules

Akure, October 2, 2024(TheGavel) – The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ondo State has issued a stern warning to drivers to refrain from speeding and wrongful overtaking to prevent road accidents.

During a sensitization campaign organized by the command for drivers at Oloko park in Akure, Dr. Samuel Ibitoye, the FRSC State Sector Commander, emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic regulations to reduce the alarming rate of road fatalities in the state.

Ibitoye highlighted that speeding has been a primary cause of accidents on Nigerian roads. He urged drivers to install speed limit devices in their vehicles to ensure compliance and promote safety for themselves and their passengers.

“When we have a bus carrying 18 passengers from 18 different families, and an accident occurs, the consequences are devastating, affecting not only the families but also the economy and society as a whole,” Ibitoye stated.

The sector commander called upon the public to collaborate with the FRSC in promoting road safety and fostering a culture of responsible driving. He expressed optimism that Nigeria could become a country where traffic rules and regulations are strictly adhered to.

In response to the sensitization campaign, Mr. Tajudeen Kareem, the State Deputy Secretary of the Road Transport Employer Association of Nigeria (RETAN) in Ondo State, commended the FRSC for its efforts. He urged drivers to prioritize road safety and avoid reckless driving.

Kareem advised drivers to install speed limit devices in their vehicles to safeguard their lives and the lives of their passengers. He emphasized the collective responsibility of all road users to contribute to a safer driving environment.(NAN)
