Eminent senior lawyer and first Senior Advocate of Nigeria(SAN) from Bayelsa State, Chief Anthony George-Ikoli, has paid a glowing tribute to the Amanyanabo of Nembe Kingdom, His Eminence King (Dr.) Edmund Maduabebe Daukoru, Mingi XII, describing him as an institution whose life embodies the rare fusion of traditional authority, intellectual distinction, public service and global leadership.

In a birthday tribute dated October 13, 2026, King Daukoru’s birthday, George-Ikoli, who is also the Chairman of Gavel International, extolled the monarch’s contributions to Nigeria’s petroleum industry, international energy diplomacy and the preservation of the cultural heritage of the Niger Delta.

He described King Daukoru as a distinguished scholar, accomplished technocrat, statesman and traditional ruler whose influence transcends the boundaries of Nembe Kingdom. “Your Majesty, you are more than a King. You are an institution,” George-Ikoli declared, celebrating the monarch’s remarkable journey from academic excellence to the highest levels of Nigeria’s petroleum administration and traditional leadership.

The legal luminary noted that King Daukoru’s academic accomplishments, including his scholarship at Imperial College London, demonstrated the capacity of the Niger Delta to produce men capable of excelling on the world stage.

According to him, the monarch’s career in the petroleum industry and public service further established his reputation as a man whose knowledge and experience placed him at the centre of important national and international affairs. As former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, former Minister of Petroleum Resources and former President of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, Daukoru occupied positions of considerable responsibility in Nigeria’s energy sector and the global petroleum industry.

George-Ikoli, the Gbatei-Fatei of Twon-Brass said these achievements reflected a rare combination of scientific knowledge, administrative experience and diplomatic engagement. He observed that the monarch helped project Nigeria’s voice in international energy affairs, earning distinction beyond the shores of his country. “He made black gold speak with a Nembe accent,” he said, in a colourful tribute to the monarch’s contribution to the petroleum industry and Nigeria’s international standing.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, George-Ikoli praised the monarch for bringing intellectual depth and a forward-looking outlook to traditional leadership. He said King Daukoru had successfully combined the responsibility of preserving the customs and traditions of Nembe Kingdom with the demands of modern leadership and development.

According to him, the monarch represents a meeting point between the enduring heritage of the Ijaw people and the possibilities of a rapidly changing world. “As monarch, you sit on a throne centuries old, yet you rule with a vision centuries ahead. You are a custodian of culture, yet a champion of progress,” he said.
George-Ikoli, also paid tribute to the monarch’s generosity, mentorship and commitment to nurturing younger generations. He said Daukoru’s influence extended beyond the palace and the institutions he had served, touching the lives of professionals and ordinary people who had benefited from his counsel and encouragement.

The senior lawyer described the monarch as a father figure and mentor whose willingness to share knowledge and build relationships had made him an important source of inspiration to many.
“He does not merely open doors; he builds bridges. He does not merely advise; he inspires,” George-Ikoli said,  adding that the monarch’s life offered an enduring lesson that genuine royalty was defined not merely by the crown but by character, service and the ability to elevate others.

“Power is not in the barrel, but in the brain. True sovereignty is not merely in ruling people, but in raising them,” he declared.

On the occasion of the monarch’s birthday, George-Ikoli offered prayers for his continued good health, wisdom, fulfilment and a long, peaceful reign.
The tribute was conveyed on behalf of his family, the people of Twon-Brass Kingdom, Gavel International and others who, he said, valued excellence and exemplary leadership.

He prayed that the monarch’s reign would endure, his wisdom would continue to guide his people, and his legacy would remain firmly rooted in the history and development of the Niger Delta. “May your legacy be stronger than the oil beneath our soil,” he said.
George-Ikoli concluded with a celebratory salute to the monarch, wishing him many more years of service to his people and humanity.
“Long live Mingi XII! Long live the Amanyanabo of Nembe! Long live the legend who made petroleum a profession and kingship a calling!” he declared.
