A Gombe State High Court has sentenced three men to death by hanging for their involvement in the murder of one Ibrahim Yahaya in April 2022.

The convicted individuals, Dauda Mohammed Abubakar (alias Agenda), Kabiru Abubakar (alias Gwarei), and Ibrahim Suleiman were found guilty on two of the three-count charges brought against them by the Gombe State Government.

Delivering judgment at High Court 3, Justice Haruna Kereng ruled that the prosecution had proven beyond reasonable doubt the offences of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide against the trio. The offences, he said, are punishable under Sections 97(1) and 221 of the Penal Code.

“That each and all of you shall be hanged by the neck until you are pronounced and certified dead by a medical practitioner,” Justice Kereng declared in court.

The defendants were originally arraigned on November 17, 2022, on charges of criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, and causing grievous hurt.
