Dutse, Oct. 7, 2024 (TheGavel) – Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has issued a stern warning to newly elected local government chairmen, cautioning them against engaging in land grabbing or unauthorized land allocations. Speaking at the inauguration of the chairmen and their deputies in Dutse on Monday, the governor emphasized that land management is the sole responsibility of the government.
“Let me make it clear to you that land issues are a sole responsibility of the government. Unless the governor authorizes you, stay away from land allocation and distribution, else you go to jail,” Namadi warned.
He also instructed the new officials to remain in their local government areas (LGAs) to better serve their constituents, stressing that his administration would not tolerate council chairmen residing outside their duty posts.
“You must remain in your LGAs because the era of living in Kano or Dutse will no longer be tolerated. You must remain in your duty posts, no matter the condition, and do your best to serve your people well,” the governor said.
Namadi reminded the chairmen that their assumption of office was built on trust, and that they would be held accountable both in this world and in the hereafter for how they governed their people.
“Effective management of local government will determine the success of our party, the APC, at the grassroots, state, and national levels. Govern with the utmost fear of God, take care of the people at the grassroots, and govern with transparency and honesty, as the resources at your disposal belong to the people,” he added.
The governor wished the newly inaugurated officials success in their tenure and urged them to ensure inclusiveness in their governance.
In response, Dr. Muhammad Uba, Chairman of Birninkudu Local Government Council, speaking on behalf of the newly sworn-in officials, expressed gratitude to the governor for his support. He pledged their commitment to promoting government policies and driving sustainable socio-economic development in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victories in all 27 chairmanship and 282 councillorship seats in the Oct. 5 local government elections. Meanwhile, the Accord Party (AP) won four councillorship seats, and APGA secured one.(NAN)
