Hit-and-Run Driver Claims Life of Motorcyclist on Lagos-Badagry Expressway

Badagry (Lagos State), Oct. 16, 2024 (TheGavel) — A tragic hit-and-run incident occurred on Wednesday morning, resulting in the death of a motorcyclist at the Limca bus stop area of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway. The unfortunate event highlights ongoing concerns about road safety in the region.

According to Mr. William Manga, the Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Badagry Unit, the accident took place at approximately 9:23 a.m. The command received notification of the incident at 9:27 a.m., prompting a swift response. However, the FRSC team did not arrive at the scene until 11:32 a.m.

“The accident occurred at the Limca bus stop axis of the Badagry Expressway. It involved a Sino Truck and an Ajue Lady’s motorcycle,” Manga reported. He noted that the rescue team was alerted by the Department of State Services and promptly departed from their patrol point at Mowo to reach the site of the accident.

Tragically, the motorcyclist sustained severe head injuries and succumbed to his wounds before the emergency responders could arrive. The body was subsequently transported to the mortuary at the General Hospital in Badagry.

Additionally, Manga confirmed that there was a second victim involved in the incident, who was swiftly taken to the emergency center at Badagry Roundabout by officials from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

In light of this incident, Commander Manga emphasized the need for greater caution among pedestrians crossing expressways, urging them to be vigilant. He also called on motorists to adhere to speed limits and observe all traffic rules and regulations to prevent further accidents.

“This incident is a reminder of the importance of road safety for both drivers and pedestrians. We must all work together to ensure our roads are safer for everyone,” he added.

As investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the hit-and-run driver, the community mourns the loss of another life on the roads.(NAN)
