The Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Hon Justice Oyewole Adeyeye is dead. He died in the early hours of today at an undisclosed hospital at Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

Justice Adeyeye has been indisposed since July 12, 2023 following serious injury he sustained when the section that houses his office at the State High Court complex collapsed on him. He was fatally injured as a large chunk of concrete was reported to have fallen on him. He was reported to have been immediately admitted at the Age Babalola University Multi Systems Teaching Hospital, where immediate and comprehensive treatment was carried out at the sole expense of the founder of ABUAD, Chief Afe Babalola SAN. He was subsequently flown to the United Kingdom where he spent three months for more treatment.

Despite all these, the late Justice Adekeye never recovered fully. He was never able to use his court and office again. It was even difficult for him to climb steps. Reports say that he used the old court 1 in the few times he came into office.

The new High Court Complex was one of the legacy projects of former Gov Ayodele Fayose while in office. Till today, there was no probe or calling into account of the project designers and builders. The late Chief Judge was a premium victim of poorly executed government projects.

Though no official statement has been issued to announce his death, the association of international female lawyer FIDA in the state has sent condolences to the family. The condolences message read: “With deep sorrow in our hearts and in total submission to the will of God, FIDA Ekiti condoles with the family of the Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Hon Justice Oyewole Adeyeye on his call to glory.

“May He find rest with his maker. I pray that God grants the family, the Judiciary and the people of Ekiti State, the grace to bear this irreparable loss.

Adieu, great one.” And when contacted for confirmation, Ekiti State Chairperson of FIDA, Oyinade Olatunbosun confirmed to our correspondent that she will send a statement duly signed by her when ready soon.

Justice Adeyeye was born 1960 in Araromi Ugbesi in Ekiti East Local Government of Ekiti State and was called to the bar in 1986.

He started his career as a State counsel in the Civil Service of the old Ondo State before joining the Ekiti State Judiciary Service Commission shortly after the creation of the State in 1996.

He was elevated to the position of a judge in the Ekiti State High Court in 2002 and has served at different times in the election petition tribunal. Justice Adeyeye was appointed to the position of Chief Judge on October 11, 2021. He was a respected figure in the legal community, known for his dedication and years of service.
