The Justice Aderemi Annual Lecture(JAALS) took place in Ibadan, Oyo State, with Jagz Hotel, urging Nigerians to distribute influence and authority properly to attract foreign investment into the country.
The Managing Director of Jagz, Mr Lugard Agbomoagan, who also a lawyer, in his welcome address to the participants of the lecture stressed that foreign investment will generate more employment and raise the bar for hospitality business in the country.
The annual lecture is organized by the JAALS Foundation in the memory of one of the foremost jurists, the late Justice Pius Olayiwola Aderemi, a Supreme Court Justice who died on June 18, 2018.
This year’s lecture, the seventh in the series has the theme, “Politics of Federalism: Power Dynamics Among Tiers of Government” has the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) l, Mazi Afam Osigwe SAN as the Keynote Speaker, while the Oyo State governor, Engr Seyi Makinde was the Special Guest of Honour. The Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Iyabo Yerima was the Chief Host.
Others speakers include former Attorney General of Oyo State, Prof Oyelowo Oyewo, Senior Partner, Age Babalola&Co, Mr Adebayo Adenipekun SAN, Justice(Prof) Alero Akeredolu of Ondo State High Court, former NBA, Lagos branch chair, Mr Yemi Akangbe SAN, Ms Opeyemi Adamolekun, Executive Director,EiE, and Mr Isiaka Olagunju SAN.
Commenting on the hospitality industry in Ibadan, and Southwest Nigeria, Agbomoagan said:
“As a hospitality company deeply rooted in the cultural heart of Ibadan, we have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of tourism when properly harnessed. Our state possesses extraordinary assets that remain largely untapped – from the historic grandeur of the Cocoa House to the serene landscapes of our rural communities. These treasures, combined with our rich Yoruba heritage and renowned hospitality, position us uniquely to attract discerning international visitors;
When influence and authority are properly distributed among the tiers of government, we successfully attract global visitors, we create employment opportunities for our youth, generate foreign exchange earnings, and stimulate growth across multiple sectors. However, realizing this potential requires strategic collaboration among all stakeholders;
At The Jagz, we remain committed to maintaining the highest standards of hospitality while celebrating the authentic character that makes Ibadan special;
While we thank the Government of Oyo State for creating an enabling environment for industries to thrive, we call upon private sector partners and civil society organizations to work together in creating an enabling environment for tourism growth;
Just as the Statue of Liberty in the New York, and Eiffel Tower in Paris, Oyo State is blessed with various iconic places that are of good sight to the entire globe”, he said.
While wishing the conference a successful outing, Agbomoagan said he looks forward to the innovative solutions and partnerships that will emerge from the deliberations. “Together, we shall harness the boundless potential of international tourism for the prosperity and global recognition of our beloved Oyo State”, he concluded.
