Iran has said the diplomatic tone of the United States has changed significantly as Washington seeks to revive formal negotiations with Tehran amid continued military tensions involving the US, Israel and Iran.

The head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaei, disclosed this on Saturday, 31 October, saying he had received a letter from US Vice-President JD Vance aimed at restarting diplomatic discussions.

Speaking during a broadcast on Iranian state television, Rezaei said he had read the letter but was yet to send a formal response.

“I read the letter. I haven’t yet responded. Their tone has completely changed,” he said.

He described the apparent change in Washington’s diplomatic approach as a positive development, claiming it demonstrated that Iran had consolidated its victory.

However, Rezaei declined to disclose further details about the contents of the letter or indicate when Tehran might respond.

The development comes amid ongoing indirect mediation efforts led by Qatar to ease tensions between both countries and encourage a return to diplomatic negotiations.

Despite the reported communication from Washington, Iranian officials reiterated on Saturday that Tehran had no immediate plans to hold direct bilateral meetings with US representatives.
