Kaduna State, Nigeria(TheGavel) – A petty trader in Kaduna, Nazifi Alkassim, has expressed immense gratitude to the Kaduna State Contributory Health Scheme for saving his family from financial ruin. His wife recently gave birth to triplets, and Alkassim believes that without the scheme, he would have been overwhelmed by the medical expenses associated with pregnancy and delivery.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday, September 12, 2024, Alkassim shared his experience with the scheme. Initially hesitant to enroll, he eventually decided to join a few months before his wife’s pregnancy. Despite his initial skepticism, he was pleasantly surprised by the quality of healthcare and the significant cost savings he experienced.

“When I enrolled in the scheme, I didn’t expect it to make a big difference,” Alkassim said. “But to my surprise, the healthcare my wife received from pregnancy to birth was exceptional. I didn’t spend a single dime.”

Alkassim emphasized that the economic hardship had taken a toll on his business, making the contributory health scheme an invaluable lifeline. He praised the Kaduna State Contributory Health Management Authority (KADCHMA) for providing such a reliable and supportive scheme.

Alkassim’s wife, Maimuna Salis, also expressed her gratitude to God for the blessings of triplets and to KADCHMA for their practical demonstration of their commitment to healthcare. She acknowledged the challenges of caring for three newborns but emphasized the ease that the scheme brought to their lives.

The triplets, two boys and a girl, were named Muhammad, Ahmad, and Fatima.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that KADCHMA had recently begun enrolling 16,000 pensioners into the contributory health scheme at an annual premium of N10,600. The Director-General of KADCHMA, Hassan Abubakar, stated that the state government was committed to providing affordable and quality healthcare services to all residents, including pensioners, other associations, and the informal sector. This aligns with the state government’s goal of achieving universal health coverage by 2030.

With the health insurance, enrollees have access to healthcare services from any public or private health facility across the state without out-of-pocket expenses. (NAN)
