Kano Customs Generates N78.524bn in Nine Months – Comptroller

Kano, Oct. 9, 2024 (NAN) – The Kano Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has generated a total revenue of N78.524 billion between January and September 2024. This was revealed by the Area Comptroller, Mr. Dauda Chana, during a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Kano.

The command, which oversees Kano and Jigawa states, reported a significant increase in its revenue generation. Chana attributed the boost to the implementation of enhanced security measures aimed at preventing smuggling activities within the region.

He stated that officers had been strategically positioned at various locations, including border posts in Maigatari and Gumel (Jigawa State), to combat smuggling activities. Similarly, officers were deployed at the Jeke outpost in Babura Local Government Area of Jigawa to intensify anti-smuggling operations.

“We are prepared to tackle smuggling through various strategies, ensuring that offenders are arrested and prosecuted,” Chana said.

The comptroller also called on traditional rulers, stakeholders, and residents of border areas to help sensitize the public about the economic consequences of smuggling. He emphasized the importance of engaging youths in border communities to assist field officers with intelligence to curb illegal activities.

Chana reaffirmed the command’s commitment to making its area of coverage hostile to smugglers and solicited support for promoting the export of locally produced goods.(NAN)
