The high wired politics in the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State Monday saw the Lagos State House of Assembly return to status quo ante belum as impeached Speaker, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa return as Speaker while the new Speaker, Hon Mojisola Miranda return back to her formal position of Deputy Speaker.
Obasa was sworn in on Monday, following the resignation of Hon Mojisola Meranda, who stepped down as speaker after 49 days in office.
But Obasa’s return might not be unconnected to the high wire politics and the intervention of the leaders of the APC who brokered the settlement between Obasa and his colleagues.
Following the resignation of Meranda as the Speaker of the Lagos Assembly, Hon Noheem Adams nominated Obasa to fill the vacant position while Hon Akinsanya Nureni seconded the motion.
Speaking after his reinstatement, Obasa expressed gratitude to his colleagues and party leaders, including former Osun State Governor, Chief Bisi Akande and his Ogun State counterpart, Chief Olusegun Osoba.
Obasa also described the transition as a sign of political maturity within the assembly, adding that the legislature had its own mechanisms for resolving internal issues.
He said, “Today is not the day for speech making but to appreciate our colleagues who have put a lot into this gathering today.
”I thank the party leaders present here today and special thanks to Bisi Akande, former Osun governor, Olusegun Osoba, former governor of Ogun.
“We have resolved and determined to serve and protect the interest of Lagosians.
“What is happening today shows that the house is mature and has internal mechanism to resolve issues.
“Today is not the day for speech making, but to thank my colleagues for everything.”
Obasa later adjourned the plenary.
