Lagos, Oct. 4, 2024 (TheGavel) – In a bid to improve access to quality education and empower young talents, a Lagos lawmaker, Mr. Adewale Temitope, has awarded scholarships to 50 outstanding public school students. The scholarship initiative is part of his broader educational support program, which aims to alleviate the financial burden on indigent students while fostering academic excellence in his constituency.

Adewale, who represents Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency I at the Lagos State House of Assembly, made the announcement on Thursday during the distribution of 250 General Certificate of Education (GCE) forms to another group of beneficiaries. He highlighted that, in addition to the scholarship program, he had also facilitated the admission of 857 students into various tertiary institutions across Nigeria, underscoring his commitment to educational advancement in the constituency.

The lawmaker stated that his scholarship scheme is designed to support the educational aspirations of students who demonstrate both need and merit. According to him, the ultimate goal is to position Ifako-Ijaiye as one of the most educated local government areas in Nigeria in the near future.

“We are on the right track to achieve this, and I once again assure you that I remain committed to this goal,” Adewale said. He further explained that education remains the bedrock of societal development and that empowering the youth through education is crucial for a brighter future.

As part of his educational drive, Adewale revealed that 615 adults are currently enrolled in adult education programs within the constituency. Of this number, 50 outstanding adults have been registered for the National Examination Council (NECO) exams, showcasing his inclusive approach to education by ensuring that even adult learners have opportunities for academic advancement.

The lawmaker also spoke about his efforts in improving educational infrastructure in Ifako-Ijaiye. According to him, several schools have undergone significant renovations, including Ogundimu Primary School, Fagba Junior Grammar School, and the Bishop Oluwole Complex School. These renovations are part of a broader initiative to create a conducive learning environment for students in the constituency.

In addition to infrastructure improvements, Adewale has also been instrumental in providing educational materials and resources. Just a few weeks ago, thousands of school materials and books were distributed to pupils and students in the constituency. His efforts to enhance education are not limited to scholarships and infrastructure; he has also facilitated employment opportunities for qualified residents, further contributing to the socio-economic development of Ifako-Ijaiye.

Adewale’s educational initiatives fall under the Adewale Temitope Adedeji Educational Initiatives (ATA-EI), which he announced has now evolved into a foundation dedicated to educational empowerment. Through the foundation, Adewale has distributed over 4,000 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms and 1,200 GCE forms to students within the constituency. In addition to distributing forms, free tutorial classes have been organized for a total of 8,716 candidates preparing for these examinations, ensuring that students have the necessary support to succeed.

Speaking directly to the beneficiaries of the GCE forms, Adewale urged them to take their studies seriously and make the most of the opportunity. He emphasized the importance of education in achieving personal and professional success, advising the students to remain focused and committed to their goals.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Adewale, popularly known as “Jay,” is also the Chairman of the House Committee on Transportation. His multifaceted approach to leadership, which includes education, infrastructure development, and youth empowerment, has earned him widespread praise in his constituency.

As the 2024/2025 academic session begins, Adewale’s initiatives continue to positively impact the lives of students and families in Ifako-Ijaiye. His vision for a more educated and empowered constituency is becoming a reality, as more students are given the tools they need to succeed academically and contribute to the community’s development.(NAN)
