Lagos NYSC Director, Baderinwa assures INEC of support in Electoral matters

As the nation gears up for the conduct of 2023 General elections, State Coordinator, NYSC Lagos, Yetunde Baderinwa has assured the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) in Lagos State of the corps’ maximum cooperation towards the success of the elections.

She made this assurance during the visit of the new Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC, posted to Lagos, Mr Olusegun Agbaje, to the NYSC State Secretariat, Surulere, today.

According to the State Coordinator, NYSC and INEC are conjoined twins who are bounded by the same core values of integrity and service, aiming for the same course of fair elections. She added that the relationship and friendship that has been forged between the officials of the two bodies will only make the collaboration stronger. She said “it is not about INEC now, it is about relationship, about friendship, and we can guarantee that we will work as a team.”

Meanwhile, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Olusegun Agbaje, has extolled the contributions of the NYSC towards electioneering in the country. He said “we appreciate your contributions towards election in the country, without the NYSC, we do not have the necessary manpower to prosecute any election. NYSC has provided over 90% of the staff we need for elections. That is why we have come, I have come to familiarize myself and my team with the NYSC because we don’t want to wait till duty calls. When the time comes, we are going to play our part as unbiased umpires and we expect you to play your part in the process, especially the corps members who will be manning the polls.”

As a fall out of the strategic meeting, corps members will be drafted for the continuous registration of Lagosians for the Temporary Voters’ Card in a Social gathering that will last for a week in the month of June. This is to encourage citizens who are yet to register for the election to do so, while also ensuring they have fun in live shows at the Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos.
