Kaduna, Oct. 14, 2024 (TheGavel) – The Commandant of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) Jaji, Air Vice Marshal Hassan Alhaji, emphasized the importance of leadership and management in determining the operational effectiveness of the military. He made these remarks during a five-day Leadership and Management Seminar, Course 44, held at the Warrant Officers’ Academy, Jaji Military Cantonment in Kaduna.
The seminar, themed “Developing Junior Leadership Skills to Enhance Competence within a Joint Environment,” focused on enhancing leadership and management skills among junior military personnel. AVM Alhaji highlighted that decisions made by military leaders at all levels significantly impact the overall operational effectiveness of military formations, battalions, regiments, and units.
“Leadership and management are crucial, especially in the profession of arms. Decisions made by leaders can greatly impact the military’s operational effectiveness,” he stated. He added that ineffective leadership could negatively affect the performance of military units.
Given the dynamic nature of warfare and the challenges faced by junior leaders in various operations, AVM Alhaji stressed the importance of continuous leadership training. He urged participants to approach the seminar with a positive mindset, emphasizing the vital roles they play in decision-making processes within their formations.
Brigadier-General Auwal Mahmuda, Commandant of the Warrant Officers’ Academy, also addressed the participants, noting that the seminar was part of the academy’s efforts to bridge the leadership and management gap between commissioned officers and enlisted personnel. He explained that the academy focuses on training warrant officers and senior non-commissioned officers, providing them with the necessary skills to enhance leadership in both peace and war situations.
The seminar included participants from the Nigerian Air Force and allied students from Liberia and The Gambia, reflecting the academy’s international reach. Senior officers, both serving and retired, were invited as resource persons to deliver lectures and share their experiences.
This initiative aligns with the Chief of Army Staff’s command philosophy, which seeks to transform the Nigerian Army into a well-trained, equipped, and motivated force capable of fulfilling its constitutional duties within a joint operational environment. (NAN)
