Man, 38, Docked Over Alleged N3m Bus Theft

Lagos State,  (TheGavel) — A 38-year-old man, Austine Uchenna, appeared before the Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday, facing charges of stealing a Nissan bus valued at N3 million and breaching the peace.

Uchenna, whose address was not disclosed, pleaded not guilty to both charges.

The Prosecutor, ASP Clement Okuoimose, informed the court that the alleged offences took place on August 28 at 11:30 p.m. at No. 5, Taiwo Adeyinka Street, Badagry, Lagos. According to the prosecution, Uchenna stole a Nissan bus with the registration number KTU 816 XZ, belonging to one Sunday Okoduwa, the complainant.

“The defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by intimidating and annoying the complainant,” Okuoimose stated. He emphasized that the alleged actions contravened Sections 287 and 168 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

Chief Magistrate Mr. A. J. Aina granted Uchenna bail in the amount of N500,000, requiring two sureties in a similar sum. One of the sureties must be a recognized community leader and must provide evidence of two years of consecutive tax payments to the state government.

The case has been adjourned until October 14 for mention. (NAN)
