Man, 39, Arraigned in Lagos Court Over Alleged E-Passport Fraud of N346,000

Lagos, Oct. 18, 2024 (TheGavel) – A 39-year-old man, Favour Akinyemi, appeared before the Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on charges of defrauding a student of N346,000 under false pretenses. Akinyemi, who was charged with obtaining by false pretence, pleaded not guilty to the allegations.

The prosecutor, ASP Simon Uche, informed the court that the defendant committed the offense on April 18, 2024, in the Shibiri area of Ojo, Lagos. According to Uche, Akinyemi had fraudulently obtained N346,000 from a student, Naomi Precious, under the guise of assisting her in processing an electronic passport (e-passport) and other necessary documents for her admission into a tertiary institution.

Uche explained that Akinyemi’s representations were false, as he failed to provide the promised documents, thereby defrauding the complainant. The alleged offense contravenes Section 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Magistrate L.K.J. Layeni granted Akinyemi bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum. The case has been adjourned until November 11 for further mention.(NAN)
