Man Arraigned for Alleged Child Abduction in Lagos

Lagos, Nigeria, September 17, 2024(TheGavel) – A 36-year-old man, Aminu Shanaki, was brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, to face charges of conspiracy and child abduction. The alleged incident took place on September 7, 2024, at the Kola Bus Stop in the Alagbado area of Lagos.

According to the prosecution, led by Inspector John Iberedem, Shanaki stole a child belonging to Mrs. Kausara Olaegbe. The defendant was apprehended by passersby, who turned him over to the police. The charges against Shanaki violate Sections 275(1)(a) and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015, which carry potential penalties of 14 years imprisonment for abduction and two years for conspiracy.

Shanaki pleaded not guilty to the charges. Magistrate Mrs. E. Kubeinje granted him bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum. The sureties were required to be gainfully employed and provide proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government. The case has been adjourned until October 15, 2024, for further proceedings.(NAN)
